juggling motherhood with running a small business

balance is key

You can be a great Mother + pursue your dreams simultaneously.

Just this year I have decided to make this business of mine a full time job. I have had it for 6+ years but actually, honestly, only run it half heartedly and have thought about quitting many times ! However this year, I have found myself with three child free days ! Which I haven’t had for 7 and. half years. Its new to me !

I have agonised over whether I should go back into my old career (nursing) or look for a new career but then I realised I HAVE A BUSINESS! One i’ve grown from scratch + I should be proud of. I just need to put the work in and make it a priority.

Then I get hit with the MUM/HOUSE guilt! With those three days should I be dedicating it to getting my house in order, preparing meals for my family etc etc and actually I do think I can do both of those things. I just need to have the right boundaries in place to make that happen. I want to give this business the best I can but it doesn’t mean I need to be doing it 100% of the time. I just need to use the time I have wisely and well.

  1. Have time boundaries - If I am going to work school hours. Then work school hours. 9-3. Then when I pick up the children I can feel I can put my laptop/phone down and concentrate and be present with them without feeling guilty that I have not put enough work in during the day. If I am intentional with my time and use those hours well I will have no need to feel guilty in any way.

  2. Eat the frog first. Or whatever the saying is ! If the house is a complete mess in the morning I am probably going to be unable to concentrate on working on the business. Get that most hated job out the way first (the washing or cleaning the bathrooms) then I’m more likely to really sit down and work well with those jobs out the way !

  3. Done is better than perfect and if I’m tired then I don’t need to quit, I just need to rest and practice self care.

  4. If all else fails. Close the laptop, turn off the phone and get a cup of coffee and play lego xoxo
